  • We told you so … Medicare cuts

Here we go… The GOP has released a list outlining their plan to slash $479 billion from Medicare. Surprise, surprise! The Trump Republicans have set their sights on Medicare, aiming to make massive cuts. Looks like those Trump campaign promises are going down the drain.

What does this mean for you? Well, let’s break it down with an example. If a Medicare recipient has a heart attack in Oklahoma, the costs would be different compared to the same procedure in Florida. The GOP’s brilliant idea is to provide the same amount of funding regardless of location. So, if you happen to live in an area where medical care is more expensive, tough luck – you’ll be stuck with any additional costs.

To all the retired MAGA voters out there, I hope you’re still thrilled with your decision to support the Republican Congress and Trump. You wanted it, you got it! Enjoy those Medicare cuts, courtesy of your favorite politicians.

  • Just release the darn reports already … Merrick Garland

The attorney general’s decision to restrict the release of the section of Smith’s report concerning the stolen government documents hoarded by the president-elect at his Mar-a-Lago resort is simply absurd.

Yes, the Department of Justice is appealing the decision regarding the two co-defendants, but really? There’s no active case in the district court according to Judge Cannon’s own order, and let’s face it, on January 20th, that case is as good as dead.

Just release the darn reports already. We have a right to know, after all!

  • Trump skates on 34 felonies

Trump has been granted an unconditional discharge with no punishment in his hush money conviction. They say justice delayed is justice denied, but in Trump’s case, it seems like justice has been completely avoided!

Judge Juan Merchan’s decision to release Trump with no strings attached marks the end of the first and only criminal trial of a former president. Let’s be honest, you or I would never receive such a lenient deal if we were facing 34 felonies.

Back in May, a jury of his peers found Trump guilty of 34 felonies related to a scheme aimed at unlawfully influencing the 2016 election by covering up a payment to an actor to keep quiet about their alleged affair.

Essentially, Trump received nothing more than a slap on the hand for his actions… unbelievable!

It’s crystal clear that there are two separate justice systems in place – one for the wealthy and powerful, and another for the rest of us. This blatant inequality goes against the very foundation of our justice system.

  • Season 2 of the Trump Show

Beginning January 20, get ready for Season 2 of Trump Show! I thought we canceled it four years ago?

Brace yourself for the most trivial and weighty decisions to come straight from Trump’s Oval Office.

Does Trump really believe that taking over Greenland is crucial for national security? If so, how will he make it happen? If not, why is he picking fights with a NATO ally that helps us with security in the region?

On more important matters, what actual policies will Trump implement regarding China, Russia, and Iran? Will they actually work? Will he magically bring peace to Ukraine? And how will his trade and tax plans affect the economy? Will his immigration policies benefit the country?

What about groceries and gas prices plummeting like a lead balloon like he promised? So far, it seems his tiny magical hands are great for making confetti but not so much for slashing prices!

How can we genuinely trust that tariffs will benefit us without increasing prices for Americans? No economist has reached that conclusion; rather, the evidence suggests that it will exacerbate the situation.

The time for Trump to just talk is almost up. The political theater of the past few months, where Trump has been on cloud nine and his opponents have been sulking, is coming to an end.

As President, Trump will be judged by his actions, not his words. And he can’t blame Congress for any failures, since his party controls it. The last time a president had this much power, it didn’t end well for George W. Bush.

Get ready for the next four years of chaos and uncertainty. Trump’s policies will have serious consequences, both at home and abroad. Our political system, our country, and the world will suffer.

That’s why it’s up to us in the opposition to try and stop Trump from causing too much damage. A restrained Trump is a slightly less destructive Trump – for the world, our nation, and our democracy.

We must stand firm for our democracy to endure.

  • Jimmy Carter a life well lived

Jimmy Carter was a compassionate individual who genuinely cared about people. Growing up in a liberal environment in a racist, rural town in Georgia, while also being a businessman, made him sensitive to the struggles of all individuals.

Despite being deeply religious, he was not rigid in his beliefs. His experience in the Navy made him tough yet pragmatic. Above all, Carter was known for his humanity, a quality that shone through in his post-presidential years.

During his presidency, Carter achieved numerous successes, particularly in domestic affairs. He established the Department of Education and the U.S. Department of Energy, and implemented an energy plan during the 1979 oil crisis that boosted oil production by deregulating prices. He also preserved over 50 million acres of Alaskan wilderness as federally protected national monuments. Carter’s administration was marked by inclusivity, as he appointed a record number of Hispanic, Black, and Asian officials to high-ranking positions, as well as being the first president to have openly gay officials in the White House.

In terms of foreign policy, Carter played a pivotal role in bringing peace to the Middle East by facilitating the Camp David Accords between Israel and Egypt. Following his presidency, Carter embarked on a remarkable post-presidential career. He and his wife, Rosalynn, dedicated themselves to volunteering for Habitat for Humanity and established the Carter Center, a non-profit organization focused on promoting human rights and enhancing the lives of individuals in over 80 countries.

In addition to his philanthropic efforts, Carter served as a scholar and teacher at Emory University and was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002 for his work with the Carter Center. His commitment to supervising elections and providing disaster relief in various regions across the globe further solidified his legacy as a humanitarian.

When reflecting on Jimmy Carter’s legacy, it is essential to remember his unwavering dedication to serving others, his remarkable achievements in both domestic and foreign affairs, and his enduring commitment to promoting peace and human rights worldwide.

  • Trump’s Tuesday Press Conference…train wreck

The impending disaster that is the Trump train wreck is hurtling towards the station at full speed.

Trump’s audacious claims of coveting Greenland and the Panama Canal, along with his threats of taking them by force, are nothing short of alarming. His desire to turn Canada into a US state and rename the Gulf of Mexico as the Gulf of America is a display of his delusional grandeur.

In a nonsensical rant about the January 6 insurrection, Trump insinuated involvement of the FBI and Hezbollah, showcasing his descent into madness. His tirade against Jack Smith, the special counsel, paints a picture of a deranged individual unable to accept accountability for his actions.

The president-elect’s bizarre commentary on everyday appliances like dishwashers and showers only adds to the spectacle of his erratic behavior. His extreme and provocative statements serve as a warning to those who underestimate the danger he poses.

Tuesday’s events serve as a stark reminder of the chaos that ensues when we allow such extremism to go unchecked. The time for complacency is over, as we are on the brink of disaster if we continue to normalize Trump’s outrageous behavior.

  • Judge Cannon has blocked the public release of these highly anticipated reports on Jan 6

The attempt to downplay the events of January 6th was crucial to Trump’s potential return to power.

Trump-appointed U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon has decided to play the role of gatekeeper for special counsel Jack Smith’s reports on President-elect Donald Trump’s classified documents case and election subversion case. In a move that is sure to keep everyone on the edge of their seats.

According to Justice Department rules, special counsels must provide reports detailing their legal conclusions at the conclusion of their investigations. Just as Garland previously made public Special Counsel Robert Hur’s findings on President Biden’s handling of classified information, he will also release Smith’s report on Trump, albeit with necessary redactions.

Trump’s insistence on suppressing Smith’s report serves as a stark reminder of his aversion to truthful depictions of January 6th, particularly those supported by sworn testimony from numerous individuals, including former associates. Let’s not forget Trump’s disdain for the House January 6th Committee.

If we ever hope to restore integrity to American politics, we must confront the reality of January 6th head-on.

Of course, Trump will continue his efforts to rewrite the narrative of January 6th. He will pardon those involved in storming the Capitol, appoint conspiracy theorists to key positions, and attack anyone who dares to challenge him, from Liz Cheney to Jack Smith. While some of Trump’s more respectable defenders may not openly celebrate January 6th, they will certainly downplay or excuse the events.

For the sake of truth and democracy, it is imperative that the report be made available to the public. We need honesty and transparency in politics.  It appears Trump is afraid of the truth.

  • Trump and the GOP Tax Cuts for Billionaires

“Trump’s top priority is cutting taxes for the wealthy.” Let’s be real, it’s like Robin Hood in reverse – taking from the poor to give to the rich.

The GOP’s unwavering dedication to passing legislation that benefits the ultra-wealthy is truly heartwarming, especially considering how much Elon Musk generously donated to help elect Trump. It’s almost like a modern-day fairy tale, with Musk and Trump playing the roles of co-presidents, making decisions that benefit the elite while leaving the rest of us peasants in the dust.

Despite their best efforts, Trump and his Republican cronies couldn’t manage to get their act together during his first term, failing to pass important legislation on healthcare and infrastructure. But fear not, because now they’re focusing on what really matters – extending tax cuts to billionaires! Because who needs a functioning healthcare system or safe roads and bridges when you can have more money in the pockets of the ultra-rich?

And don’t worry about those pesky deficits that Republican leaders have been complaining about for years. Who cares about fiscal responsibility when there are tax cuts to be had? According to the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget, Trump’s proposed tax cuts could add a mere $4-5 trillion to the deficit. But hey, who’s counting when the super-rich are getting even richer, am I right?

So, is the GOP truly devoted to our welfare? Absolutely not, and that is painfully apparent!

  • Judge denies Trump’s plea to delay Friday’s sentencing on his hush money conviction

    New York CNN — 1/6/2025

Judge Juan Merchan has denied Donald Trump’s request to postpone his Friday sentencing for his hush money conviction, the judge said in a filing Monday.

It is abundantly clear that this case has been delayed to an extent that even the most patient among us could not have imagined. Despite facing judgment from a jury it seems that Trump continues to evade consequences.

It appears that justice truly is blind… or perhaps just turning a blind eye to his numerous crimes.

  • Free … Free Speech from Elon Musk

    Opinion

Elon Musk’s audacious manipulation of X, a critical arena for public discourse, is igniting profound divisions across our nation and jeopardizing the very democratic foundation upon which our society stands firm.

The increasing influence of billionaires on the media, and consequently on elections, is a concerning trend that demands our attention. Individuals like Elon Musk wield a new and dangerous form of power that must be carefully scrutinized.

Musk’s controversial decision to restore the X accounts of figures such as Donald Trump and white supremacist Nick Fuentes, despite their promotion of hate speech and misinformation, has only served to embolden extremists. This move has further eroded public trust in democratic institutions and perpetuated harmful ideologies.

Rather than promoting free speech, Musk’s actions have amplified extremism and intolerance. While freedom of speech is a fundamental pillar of democracy, there must be measures in place to address hate speech and disinformation, especially in the context of crucial events such as the upcoming presidential election.

Musk’s control over X represents a dangerous level of influence over public discourse. By determining which voices are amplified and which are silenced, Musk holds unprecedented power over public narratives, undermining principles of accountability and transparency in the process. This unchecked power threatens the very essence of democracy and should be a cause for concern for all those who value democratic values.

It is absolutely crucial that we rise up and take decisive action to curtail the overpowering influence of individuals like Musk, for the sake of safeguarding the fundamental principles of accountability and collective governance that are vital for the flourishing of our democracy. Neglecting this urgent responsibility could lead to the dangerous erosion of the very democratic fabric that binds our society together!
