A memo from VA Chief of Staff Christopher Syrek, as reported by Government Executive, reveals a disturbing plan to cut up to 83,000 jobs at the Department of Veterans Affairs. This would reduce the VA’s staffing level to 399,000 workers in fiscal 2019, down from the current 482,000 employees. Shockingly, this plan includes firing 80,000 individuals, 20,000 of whom are veterans. This deliberate dismantling of the VA’s workforce is not only dangerous, but a blatant betrayal of our veterans.
Congressman Chris Deluzio, an Iraq War veteran, has condemned this plan as an attempt to destroy the VA. He warns that cutting jobs and starving the VA of resources will harm veterans and diminish the quality of care they receive. This is not a fight we will back down from. These cuts to the VA will create understaffing leading to unacceptable wait times for veterans in need.

And let’s not forget Trump’s brilliant idea to slap tariffs on China, Canada, and Mexico, because nothing says “relief for working families” like higher prices on everyday goods. Genius move, really.
Of course, Trump couldn’t resist throwing some love to law enforcement, despite his track record of pardoning criminals convicted of attacking law enforcement officers. Because nothing says “support for law enforcement” like pardoning the very people who put their lives on the line to protect us.
