    A recent warning from the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities (CBPP) revealed that individuals will no longer be able to update their direct deposit banking information for Social Security benefits solely by phone. Despite claims from Trump officials within the SSA that this policy change aims to combat fraud, the agency’s own data indicates that direct deposit fraud is a minuscule issue, affecting less than one-hundredth of one percent of benefits.

    An analysis conducted by CBPP in April estimated that approximately 6 million individuals live more than 45 miles away from the nearest Social Security field office. This shift forces millions of Americans to visit Social Security offices while simultaneously reducing a significant portion of the workforce.

    Recent reports from NPR shed light on the struggles faced by SSA workers in meeting the needs of over 70 million beneficiaries with a reduced staff. Many individuals who supported Trump and rely on Social Security benefits are now facing the harsh reality that he is taking steps to impact their benefits, despite his promises to the contrary. The long journey to the Social Security office will give them ample time to reflect on their choices and the consequences of their vote.

    Elon Musk, along with seven DOGE staffers made an appearance on Fox News Thursday. Musk, the de facto head of the Trump administration’s Department of Government Efficiency, faced criticism for his comments regarding Social Security recipients. Musk and his team were accused of spreading false information, lies  and baseless claims about Social Security fraud, as part of a larger Republican agenda to undermine the program.

    Nancy Altman, president of Social Security Works (SSW), debunked the claims made by Musk and his team, stating that the fraud rate for Social Security is actually extremely low at 0.00625%. Critics have condemned the Trump administration for causing chaos within the Social Security Administration (SSA) by planning layoffs, budget cuts, and other disruptive policies.

    The chaos created by DOGE has resulted in the SSA website crashing multiple times and long wait times for those trying to contact the agency. Musk and Trump have both made disparaging remarks about Social Security, with Trump calling it a scam and Musk labeling it as the biggest Ponzi scheme in history.

    It is clear that Musk and Trump cannot be trusted to protect Social Security. It is imperative that we do not allow them to dismantle the vital benefits program that millions of Americans rely on. The future of Social Security must not be jeopardized by Trump’s reckless actions.

Yet now, this crucial aid has been obliterated, and experts are sounding the alarm: if Trump persists on this reckless course, millions could face devastating consequences within just a year.

    The United States has poured invaluable resources into uncovering one of Russia’s most despicable war crimes: the heart-wrenching abduction of thousands of Ukrainian children for the abhorrent purpose of forced adoption by Russian families. The Conflict Observatory, a critical initiative backed by the State Department, assembled crucial data on these vulnerable missing children, key for any future efforts to reunite them with their devastated families. It’s utterly shocking that the State Department has abruptly terminated their contract, fueling fears that this vital database may have been carelessly erased forever. And disturbingly, Trump now chooses to align himself with our long-standing adversary, Russia, rather than standing up for the principles of democracy!

    In 2024, Donald Trump made a powerful comeback to the White House, surfing the tidal wave of a collective amnesia that swept across the nation. Despite his deeply troubling ties with foreign dictators, the disastrous mishandling of the COVID pandemic, and his blatant attempts to subvert the 2020 election, a staggering number of voters chose to bury these egregious transgressions in favor of addressing urgent issues like skyrocketing grocery and rent prices. Trump’s magnetic appeal to young voters, who had never witnessed a political landscape unmarred by his divisive politics, was a pivotal factor in his victory.

    The America of the past, despite its imperfections, was undeniably a beacon of hope and progress. Those who profess to tear it down, cloaked in the guise of restoring its former glory, are, in truth, pursuing a reckless and destructive agenda, Project 2025. Take Elon Musk as an example—a South African immigrant with no real ties to the America we once knew. They move forward with a carefree attitude, vowing to mend the havoc they wreak when the time comes, but the damage they inflict is far too grave to simply brush aside.

    It was a source of pride to be a nation that cared for HIV-infected babies in Africa, saving lives for mere pennies a day. It was a nation that prioritized compassion and humanitarian aid. It’s revealing that Musk swiftly deleted the post.

    The post specifically references Stalin, Mao, and Hitler, highlighting the millions of lives lost under their brutal regimes. Stalin’s reign of terror in the Soviet Union, Mao’s disastrous policies in China, and Hitler’s genocide during World War II are well-documented historical tragedies that cannot be dismissed by blaming faceless bureaucrats.

    What makes Musk’s repost even more alarming is his current role as the head of the so-called Department of Government Efficiency, where he has been actively firing federal employees, including those in crucial roles at agencies like the National Weather Service and FEMA.     It is a rare occurrence to hear Elon Musk openly discuss the intricate details of his own immigration journey. Musk kickstarted his career by working illegally in the US while establishing a Silicon Valley startup in the 1990s. According to court records, company documents, and former business associates, including a previous CEO of the company, investors were concerned about the possibility of Musk being deported.

    Born in South Africa, Musk obtained Canadian citizenship through his mother before coming to the US to pursue studies at the University of Pennsylvania in 1992. Despite initially planning to continue his education at Stanford, Musk decided to drop out and focus on founding his first company.

    Experts highlight the significance of Musk’s actions, as there are strict regulations regarding the type of work permitted for individuals on student visas. Work authorizations linked to student visas typically require active enrollment in studies or approval from the sponsoring institution for post-graduation training. Although Stanford has no record of Musk enrolling, he was accepted into the Materials Science and Engineering graduate program.

    Musk’s admission of holding a J-1 visa indicates that he worked illegally, as the restrictions only permitted work related to his academic program. It is evident that Musk did not adhere to the rules at that time.

    It seems that Elon Musk, the man with more business interests before the US government than anyone else on the planet, has been having quite the time wreaking havoc and causing chaos. From cutting billions of dollars from agency budgets to firing agency personnel and even ‘deleting’ entire agencies, Musk has been quite the busy bee.

    But wait, there’s more! He’s also been canceling government contracts, selling government property, and withdrawing regulations left and right. And let’s not forget about installing his own teams into agencies and giving them access to sensitive data. 

    And the best part? Musk doesn’t even have a job title! It took two weeks for the administration to confirm that he’s a “special government employee.” What does that even mean? Who knows! But hey, as long as he’s not breaking any laws, right?

    Oh, wait. It turns out there’s been zero confirmation that Musk has been following any conflict of interest laws. But hey, he received ethics training and filed a confidential financial disclosure, so I’m sure everything is just fine. Because when you’re the richest man in the world, who needs to follow the rules anyway?

    It seems that Elon Musk is just doing whatever he wants, consequences be damned. But hey, as long as he’s making money, who cares about legalities and ethics he fits really well with the Trump Administration. 

  • House Republicans have ignored their constituents and chosen their billionaire donors.

    The Republicans are currently discussing the possibility of cutting Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, VA benefits, and other essential programs that millions of Americans rely on after their passage of a budget bill Tuesday in a party line vote. All but one republican voting for with Democrats all against. This is all in order to push through a $4.5 trillion tax cut that Trump wanted that primarily benefits the wealthy.

    A recent national survey shows that most voters are totally not cool with Congress giving more tax cuts to rich people (76% are against it) and big corporations (70% think it’s a bad idea). Cutting Medicaid? No way, that’s just not acceptable. Overall, voters were even more against that, with 82 percent saying it’s a bad move.

    House Republicans hastily passed their budget blueprint late Tuesday, with President Donald Trump pressuring members to vote in favor of the resolution. This resolution kickstarts the process of making drastic cuts to Medicaid and other vital programs to fund massive tax cuts for the rich.

    Their bill will cause immense hardship for hardworking Americans, slashing Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act to fund lavish tax breaks for billionaires like Elon Musk. Instead of listening to their constituents, House Republicans have chosen to prioritize the interests of their billionaire donors and party leaders by pushing an extreme budget bill that benefits the wealthy elite at the expense of workers and families.

    The resolution mandates the House Energy and Commerce Committee to propose changes to reduce the deficit by at least $880 billion over the next decade. This committee has authority over Medicaid, which Republicans have repeatedly targeted for cuts. In fact, leaked GOP documents suggest over $2 trillion in cuts to the program.

    Republicans have also rejected Democratic amendments that would have prevented cuts to Medicaid and SNAP in the upcoming budget reconciliation process. Their budget bill will strip essential services from millions of working and middle-class Americans to fund Trump’s $5 trillion in tax breaks for the wealthy.

    The cost of extending tax cuts for the top 1% alone is estimated at $1.1 trillion. This blatant disregard for the well-being of everyday Americans in favor of the wealthy elite is unacceptable and must be challenged.
