According to Ezra Levin, organizer of the Indivisible movement, this is a clear sign that the GOP is “worried” about the growing anti-Trump sentiment. In an interview with CNN’s Dana Bash, Levin stated, “The number 1 thing they fear is peaceful protests, because authoritarian regimes depend on convincing the populace that they are alone and weak and that [the regime] is all-powerful.”

The attacks on protestors have been relentless, with House Speaker Mike Johnson going as far as to label them as the “Pro-Hamas wing” of the Democratic Party. However, Levin remains undeterred, citing the skyrocketing numbers of protest events planned across the nation. “I think what they’re doing is backfiring. Our numbers are skyrocketing,” he said, referencing over 2,600 protest events planned and a significant increase in RSVPs compared to the June “No Kings” protests.

The GOP’s attempts to silence the growing resistance are not only unconstitutional and illegal but also a testament to the fear that grips them. As Levin aptly put it, “Authoritarian regimes depend on convincing the populace that they are alone and weak and that [the regime] is all-powerful.” The fact that peaceful protests are being met with such aggression is a clear indication that the GOP is losing its grip on power.
